Future activities with IGM beyond MARE (sustainability of the collaboration)
The collaboration between MARE and IGM is also planned beyond the completion of MARE project. Since Dr. Siti Nur Fathiyah is also an active member in IGM, initiatives to continue the collaboration under the theme of “Marine and Coastal Geology” has been planned together with Dr. Nor Bakhiah and also Mr. Abdullah Sulaiman. This will ensure the sustainability of the collaboration even beyond MARE project.
Listed below are the planned activities to ensure the sustainability of sectoral collaborative platform.
Ocean School
Ocean School is planned to be conducted in one of the islands in east coast of Peninsula Malaysia. The purpose of Ocean School is to educate the residents of the island, especially younger generation about how their island was formed from the perspective of geological process (ie: intrusion, uplifting, erosion etc). Several activities are plan throughout the Ocean School Program that includes teaching and learning, fieldtrips, hand sample observations and treasure hunt. If this program is successful, we plan to extend the program to the other islands in Malaysia.
Course for coastal mapping
This activity is planned to target university students enrolling in Geology, Geoscience, Marine Geoscience, Civil and Environmental Engineering and Marine Engineering in Malaysia. It will 3 days 2 nights activity where all participants will be stationed in suitable coastal area in Kapas Island, Terengganu. Participants will be expose to traditional and modern technique of coastal mapping.
